The Short Version

I have owned this exact style of Hamilton Beach breakfast sandwich maker for at least six years across three different homes, including a hunting camp in Maine, and I currently keep one running at our Florida home as well. Two sandwiches cooked perfectly in four and a half minutes every single time. If you love breakfast sandwiches and want to make them exactly the way you like them at home, this is the appliance that delivers.

Why We Bought It

My first sandwich maker was a single sandwich machine and it meant cooking one breakfast sandwich at a time while the other one sat and cooled. Once I discovered the dual version, that problem disappeared completely. One sandwich for me, one for my husband, both ready at the same time.

Over the years I have purchased this same style of dual breakfast sandwich maker for multiple homes. One for our second home in Northern Maine, one to bring to hunting camp two years ago, and the one currently running in our Florida kitchen. At thirty three dollars the price has always made it an easy decision, and after six years of consistent use I have never once questioned that choice.

The Real Life Experience

My go to sandwich starts with an English muffin split in half, a slice of cheese broken into quarters to fit the cooker, and Canadian bacon. I scramble my egg with a little salt and pepper, sometimes using egg substitute or egg whites to keep things lighter, spray the griddle lightly, pour the egg on, top it with the muffin, close the lid, and set the timer for four and a half minutes. It has never once needed the full five.

What comes out is fully cooked through every time. No runny centers, no undercooked spots, whether I am using whole eggs, egg substitute, or egg whites. The dual function means I can run two completely different sandwiches at once. Canadian bacon on one side and regular bacon on the other, or bacon paired with a sausage patty. Everyone gets exactly what they want without anyone waiting.

Assembly is simple once you get into a rhythm. I lay out everything before I plug the machine in, muffins split, cheese broken into quarters, meat ready, eggs scrambled, so by the time it reaches temperature I am ready to load and close. While one round cooks I prep the next, which makes feeding a larger group surprisingly fast. One morning at hunting camp before a moose hunt I fed six people running the machine through three rounds back to back. Everyone had a hot breakfast sandwich before we headed out.

Cleanup is genuinely easy. The lid lifts fully open and the circular nonstick plates pop out completely for washing in hot soapy water or the dishwasher, which ever you prefer. I will admit that when I first bought one I did not realize the plates were removable and tried to clean it as one solid unit, which was a mess. Once I figured out they pop out, cleanup became simple. They go back in exactly the same way every time.

It has lived on an open counter at camp, as a permanent fixture at our Northern Maine home, and tucked into a pullout drawer beneath the cooktop in our main house, where it stores either horizontally or vertically depending on the space you have. It does not take up much room anywhere it has lived.

The sandwiches genuinely come out hot. Hot enough that you want to let them sit a minute or two before biting in, which has always read to me as a sign the machine is doing its job properly rather than any kind of inconvenience.

What I Love

Cooking two sandwiches at once, fully customized to two different people's preferences, in well under five minutes, never gets old. After six years and multiple machines across multiple homes I have never had one fail or underperform.

What I Would Change

Nothing. It does exactly what I bought it to do every single time.

Who This Is Perfect For

Anyone who loves breakfast sandwiches and does not mind prepping their own ingredients in exchange for getting exactly the sandwich they want. You control the bread, the protein, the cheese, the seasoning, and whether your eggs are scrambled or you experiment with other styles. It is a great option for anyone trying to eat a little lighter too, since light English muffins, light cheese, and egg substitutes all cook through just as well as the full versions. It is also an excellent choice for cabins, camps, or second homes where a quick and reliable breakfast setup matters, and for any household feeding more than one person breakfast at the same time.

The Verdict

Six years, multiple homes, a hunting camp, and a full time kitchen in Florida later, this breakfast sandwich maker has never let me down. Two sandwiches, four and a half minutes, fully cooked every time, and cleanup that takes less effort than making coffee. At thirty three dollars it remains one of the easiest small appliance recommendations I can make.
