The Short Version
I am a critical care nurse. Keeping people alive is literally my profession. Plants, however, are another matter entirely. I pay attention to soil moisture. I only water when it is dry. I still manage to kill them. My husband suggested these self-watering globes and I found these iridescent glass ones on Amazon. They work exactly as advertised. Fill the globe, stick it in the soil, and the plant draws water as it needs it. My plant survived our entire move from Maine to Florida. I gave some away with globes included because they are genuinely that useful. At $8.99 for two they are one of the most practical small purchases on this site.

Why I Bought Them
My grandmother was an extraordinary gardener. My mother has an abundance of lush, thriving indoor plants that she tends beautifully. I have inherited the love of indoor plants without apparently inheriting the talent for keeping them alive.
I try. I monitor soil moisture carefully. I wait until it is dry before watering. I still manage to kill them with what I can only describe as enthusiastic neglect. My husband had seen self-watering globes somewhere and suggested I try them. The concept made immediate sense. A glass globe filled with water inserted into the soil releases moisture gradually as the plant needs it rather than relying on me to guess correctly every time.
I went to Amazon and found these iridescent ones and thought they were worth trying.
What Is In the Box
The Bvrbaory set includes two iridescent glass self-watering globes with a rainbow finish that catches light beautifully in a room. The globes work by capillary action. You fill the globe with water, insert the narrow stem end into the soil, and the plant draws water through the stem as the soil dries. The globe stays full when the plant is well watered and empties gradually as the plant needs moisture. They are designed for both indoor and outdoor use.
Current price at the time of this review: $8.99 for two globes.
The Real Life Experience
The first real test was our move from Maine to Florida. I kept my globe filled throughout the entire move and my plant arrived in Florida exactly as healthy as it left Maine. That is not a small thing. A cross-country move is a stressful environment for a plant and having reliable moisture throughout made the difference.
When we moved I gave some of my plants away to friends. Both of them said the same thing. I love the plant but I am not good at watering. I handed over each plant with a globe in the soil and told them to check the water level once or twice a week and the globe would handle the rest. Simple. Effective. The plant problem solved before it started.
My mother took a couple of my other plants to look after while I am in Florida. She mentioned she would have to put them in a bedroom where she might forget to water them regularly. I sent two globes with her. Check the water level once or twice a week and the globe takes care of everything in between.
Here in Florida I find myself filling my globe every five to seven days. Climate, temperature, and humidity all affect how quickly a plant draws water so your experience may vary depending on where you live and what plant you have. But the principle works the same way everywhere.

What I Love
The plant draws water exactly when it needs it. This is the entire value proposition and it delivers completely. No guessing. No overwatering. No underwatering. The soil takes what it needs when it needs it and the globe responds accordingly.
It works as a visual indicator. When the globe is full your plant is well hydrated. When it starts emptying your plant is actively drinking. When it is nearly empty it is time to refill. That visual feedback is genuinely useful for anyone who struggles to read plant signals.
They are beautiful. The iridescent rainbow finish catches light in a way that makes them a decorative accent as well as a functional tool. Tucked into a plant on a windowsill they look intentional and lovely rather than purely utilitarian.
They work for anyone regardless of plant skill level. My mother, my friends, myself. All different levels of plant care experience and all equally served by the same simple system.
The set and forget nature is genuinely freeing. Fill it, insert it, check it every few days. That is the entire maintenance requirement. For anyone with a busy schedule or a tendency to forget watering days this changes the plant ownership experience completely.
What I Would Change
One honest note about fragility. These are made from thin glass and they will break if dropped or knocked over. I learned this firsthand when I bumped a plant stand while vacuuming and a globe that was not inserted far enough into the soil fell out and shattered completely.
This is not really a product flaw. It is the nature of thin decorative glass. The lesson is to insert the stem deeply and securely into the soil every time you place or refill the globe. Inserted properly they stay put. My carelessness caused the break, not the product.
At $8.99 for two replacing a broken one is not painful. But knowing they are fragile helps you handle them appropriately from the start.

Who These Are Perfect For
Self-watering globes are the right choice for anyone who loves indoor plants but struggles with the consistency of watering them correctly. They are perfect for:
Anyone who loves plants but tends to kill them through inconsistent watering
Busy people who want indoor plants without adding another daily task to their routine
Anyone traveling for extended periods who needs their plants watered while they are away
People giving plants as gifts who want to include an easy care solution
Anyone moving and needing to keep plants healthy during the transition
Plant lovers in warm climates where soil dries quickly and plants need more frequent moisture
If you have ever looked at a wilting plant and thought you have no idea what went wrong, these globes are your answer.
The Verdict
I keep people alive for a living and still managed to struggle with keeping plants alive. These iridescent self-watering globes solved that problem completely. My plant survived our cross-country move. My friends kept their gifted plants alive. My mother is managing plants she was worried about forgetting to water.
At $8.99 for two these are one of the easiest and most charming purchases on this entire site. Buy two. Give one away with your next plant gift. Watch the recipient actually keep the plant alive this time.
